Seli is a ski resort in Greece, recognized as one of the best in the country. It is located on Mount Verma. This is one of the best ski resorts in Greece. To the southeast of Verma is the city of Veria, the capital of the prefecture of Imathia – an area that was the center of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia.

Fans of active recreation here are waiting for wonderful red and blue trails, including cross-country skiing, and a large snowboard park. The difference in altitude here reaches 400 meters. Ski resort Sili – the first ski center of the state has been operating since 1934

Historical background

In the mid-19th century, in the 30s, on the land of Macedonia, at an altitude of 1530 meters, the ski resort of Greece – Sili was formed. The first Greek competitions were held on the territory of the resort.

Sili is not only known as a resort, but also as a place with historical monuments, small architectural buildings, among beautiful nature, fresh air, with a rural way of life. Here, churches from the Byzantine era have survived to this day, as well as the ruins of the oldest city wall. Not far from Veria, twelve kilometers from Veria, is the very first capital, which once belonged to the Macedonian kingdom of Vergina. Here you will find the burial place of the father of the great commander Alexander the Great, Philip II.

On the walls of this tomb, drawings showing moments of hunting are clearly visible, among all you will find burial objects – weapons, fabrics, armor, a laurel gold wreath, as well as a ceremonial shield. You will have the opportunity to see in special showcases portraits of the family of the royal dynasty, which are made of ivory.

How to get there:

Seli ski resort is located ninety-six kilometers from the international airport located in the city of Thessaloniki. A car transfer allows you to get to the ski resort area without any problems along an excellent track with special fences. Selia has good transport connections with the city of Veria, which is located twenty-four kilometers away. The distance from Selia to the city of Naoussa is twenty kilometers, and to the city of Kozani is no more than seventy-four kilometers.

Public transport here is represented by buses.

The skiing season is from December to March.

Slopes, trails, lifts

The most visited ski resort in Selye. Tours from December to March. For those who like to ski, there is a wonderful ski trail here. The elevation difference is about four hundred meters. Nowadays, there are about 20 trails here, their length is twenty-five kilometers, ten of which are for those who are just starting to ski. There are the shortest trails, they are intended for completely beginners of ski school students. The resort has special skiing schools.

For skiing enthusiasts, there are trails one kilometer long. The longest trail starts from a high point, which is at an altitude of 2,000 meters, and is three kilometers long. This trail was called a ring trail, because it circles the western slope. There is also the most difficult trail, nine hundred meters long.

For those who love cross-country skiing, there are special ten kilometers of excellent trails for them.

Seli meets all the requirements and standards of a modern ski resort. Skiers are offered 11 lifts for maximum comfort, a wide selection of ski trails, both for beginners and experienced professionals

There are also hiking trails here, including the international mountaineering route E4.

Sights

In the vicinity of Seli and Veria, many churches of the Byzantine period have been preserved. Lovers of antiquity will be amazed by the ruins of the city wall – here you can take memorable photos. Veria and its surroundings are known for traditional mountain villages, fantastic cuisine and wine, and wonderful nature.

Nearby is Vergina, or Aeges. In the past, it was the capital of the Macedonian state. The burials of local rulers, as well as Philip II – the father of Alexander the Great himself, have survived to this day.

There are no monuments directly in Sila – it is a traditional resort for sports recreation.

Entertainment

In the evenings, the resort hosts a disco.

Among the sports entertainment, you can also have an active nightlife. There are several restaurants, 4 bars, and from one of them you will have a wonderful panorama of the local resort.

Taste the excellent cuisine of the local tavern, visiting the Greek-style interior, tasting local wine and food. There is also a swimming pool, sauna, and gym for guests.

Hotels

In Selia, you can stay in a traditional hotel or in a separate chalet. Some prefer to stay in hotels in the vicinity of the resort, in neighboring villages, where the national Greek flavor is especially felt.

Drinks here include aniseed vodka ouzo, Metaxa brandy, rakia, Retsina wine, beer, and tea.

Shops

For souvenirs, it’s best to go to Veria. Local shops sell excellent olive oil, honey, baklava, high-quality jewelry, and olive-based cosmetics.

The prices are approximately as follows: a ring – 100 euros and more, a handmade bracelet (jewelry) – 20-30 euros, a moisturizer – 16 USD, a plate or mug painted in the Greek style – 2-3 euros.
